ROG Modular Equipment

ROG Modular Equipment manages the appearance of modular characters and NPCs in Unreal Engine. Equip items from a Data Table, hide covered body regions and equipment slots, and apply fit morphs when pieces are combined.

The plugin works with Skeletal Mesh Components already present on your actor. Create those components and configure their animation before adding equipment. Component discovery uses Component Tags; visibility and morph rules use Gameplay Tags.

Features#

  • Change one equipment slot or several slots through Blueprint functions.
  • Use either named material sections or separate components to control body visibility.
  • Configure visibility exceptions and morph influences in Project Settings.
  • Select an optional female mesh and material variant for each item.
  • Set a default NPC outfit with Preset Items and the included editor utility.
  • Load a skin onto a single component for an item preview.
  • Replicate the desired outfit and female selection, with Push Model support.

Inventory, item ownership, gameplay stats, save files and animation setup belong to your project. Equipping changes appearance; it does not grant an item or validate whether a player may use it.

Start here#

  1. Install and equip your first item.
  2. Prepare character components.
  3. Create the equipment Data Table.
  4. Configure Project Settings.
  5. Change equipment at runtime.

For custom combinations, read Visibility rules and Morph rules. See Default equipment rules for the supplied types, NPC presets, Skin previews, Custom slots and body parts, Blueprint reference, and Troubleshooting.

Using ROG asset packs#

Choose meshes fitted to the character you use. Asset fit and skeleton compatibility still apply when the plugin loads a mesh.

The ROG asset packs' Blueprint demo uses a separate equipment system. Its category tables and shortened RowNames are not the plugin's numeric item table. Create a Data Table using Modular Equipment Row, assign positive numeric IDs, and reference the meshes you want to equip. See Data Table setup.

For the asset library, see ROG Modular Assets, Characters and animation, and Outfit compatibility.
